- Assessing the vernacular built heritage of Montesinho Natural Park: an ICT-enhanced survey methodologyPublication . Tapiero, Juan; Vasconcelos, Graça; Graus, Sandra; Khei, Soon; Silva, Dener; Conde, Otavio; Ferreira, Tiago; Ortega, Javier; Luso, Eduarda; Rodrigues, Hugo; Vascvoncelos, GraçaThe INHAVIT book is a 240 pages summary of the works carried out during the project. It includes 15 chapters describing the activities carried out, the main objectives of the project and the results obtained. The main objective of INHAVIT has been the study and identification of the physical, social and environmental vulnerabilities that may be contributing to the current state of progressive abandonment of several rural villages in the Montesinho Natural Park (MNP), in the northeastern Portugal, which is the case study of the research project. Once the vulnerabilities are well defined and better understood, the results aim to contribute to safeguarding the vernacular heritage by creating awareness and promoting its continuous occupation by improving its living conditions and its resilience to multiple hazards. The book also includes perspectives on the conservation of the vernacular heritage from recognized researchers in different geographies. The outcomes of the project are expected to help stakeholders and local communities to make decisions on how to intervene in the vernacular built-up environment to transform it into sustainable, resource-efficient settlements. The complex problem and research objective has been tackled from different perspectives and research areas, involving theory of heritage conservation practice, conservation management, surveying and documentation, construction technology, digital models and virtual reality, thermal comfort, building energy consumption, nondestructive testing, long-term monitoring, social vulnerability, multihazard vulnerability, climate-related hazards, etc. This integrated multidisciplinary approach is considered a step forward in the topic of rural heritage conservation.

- Fairness in Designing Decision-Making Processes with Multi-Agent Systems and Human FactorsPublication . Vieira, Gustavo; Zeiner, Herwig; Paletta, Lucas; Fernandes, Rui; Rosse, Higor; Sabiri, Khadija; Paz, Juan F De; Barbosa, JoséThis paper explores the integration of Human Factors (HF) into Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) to enhance fairness in decision-making processes in Industry 5.0 environments. We contribute with a human-centred perspective in the development of MAS by integrating the physiological aspects of workers in the manufacturing industry. This culminates in the measurement of human resilience. This paper presents an automotive manufacturing environment where wearable sensors and AI-driven analytics assess workers' physiological and psychological stress levels to calculate a human resilience score. This score, along with worker preferences, supports a dynamic worker allocation algorithm based on MAS that adapts to production demands. Our approach embodies the Industry 5.0 vision of technologies that support adaptive, transparent and, above all, fair human management. The system uses advanced technologies to meet business goals and employee needs and to promote a more inclusive, supportive and people-centred work environment.
- Acknowledging gentrification through media art: a bibliometric review and research agendaPublication . Cardal, Susana Azevedo; Vaz, RobertoGentrification has gained significant attention in recent years due to the noticeable demographic, economic, social, architectural, and infrastructure changes occurring in urban areas. These transformations are often driven by an influx of people with higher socio-economic status, who may completely or partially replace the working-class population. Media art has emerged as an important medium for representing the complex social and cultural processes associated with gentrification. This study examines the research landscape of media art concerning gentrification by conducting a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the field over the past 30 years, supplemented by data visualization. The analysis of the 80 data consisting of high-quality peer-reviewed publications retrieved from the Scopus and Web of Science databases reveals that this scientific field is relatively unexplored but has gained a growing international interest during the past decade. This interest is reflected in the attention given by various international journals, conferences, and books. Results also suggest that seven countries are leading the development of the field worldwide, accounting for more than three-quarters of publications. The evolution of themes on the subject is identified for distinct periods, and key themes are discussed according to their relevance and development degrees, concluding several future research directions that need critical international attention to advance this scientific field.
- Upcycling wastewater treatment plant sludge into eco-friendly cement mortarPublication . Grabowski, Thais; Pietrobelli, Juliana; Martins, RamiroAiming to create alternatives for the disposal of sludge generated in wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) considering the circular economy principles and contributing to the reduction of environmental impacts generated by civil construction, the objective of this work was to evaluate the technical feasibility of the partial replacement of cement in the production of mortars by the sludge produced at the Bragança WWTP. The sludge was characterised, and different methods were used to prepare the sludge for the mortar. The sludge was incorporated by replacing part of the concrete mass of the mortar mixture. The specimens were tested for compressive strength. The specimen with 7% of sludge ash obtained the best result, the specimens with sludge from the drying-only treatments showed a result similar among themselves. The incorporation of the sludge resulted in mortars within the specification of the standard EN 998-1: 2018 and consequently have technical feasibility.
