Abstract(s)
consumidores do mercado nacional. Os dados foram analisados com recurso
ao software IBM SPSS e à estatística descritiva. Os inquiridos tinham, em
média, 35,1 anos (DP=16,9) e residiam nos distritos de Bragança (41,3%),
Porto (24,1%) e Vila Real (10,9%). Eram do género feminino (50%), tinham o
Chestnut is a food associated with healthy diets. Nutritionally, chestnut is similar to brown rice and being a substitute for potatoes, rice and wheat. This work intends to understand the consumers’ uses and knowledge on the chestnut nutritional properties. For this, a cross-section study was carried out based on a sample of 320 individuals. Data collection was based on a questionnaire applied to consumers in the national market. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS software and descriptive statistics. The respondents had, on average, 35.1 years (SD = 16.9) and lived in the districts of Bragança (41.3%), Porto (24.1%) and Vila Real (10.9%). They were female (50%), had secondary education (71.3%), lived in households with 3 or more people (54.7%) and had a monthly income of up to 1160 euros (53.8%). The majority of respondents consumed (78.4%) roasted nuts at home (49.4%) two or more times a year (50.3%). The knowledge about the nutritional properties of the chestnut showed to be bad (17.5%) or insufficient (37.8%), revealing that Portuguese consumers don’t know the nutritional benefits of chestnuts, so it is recommended to develop informative campaigns to promote chestnut consumption.
