Investor’s profile and the level of emotional competence – is there any relationship?

Resumo(s)

Over time, the assumptions of traditional financial theories have been questioned, particularly the research area of behavioural finance led to new insights into human behaviour in financial matters. Behavioural finance explores the psychological aspects of investors’ behaviour and tries to understand how limited rational behaviour is in decision making. With research on risk tolerance, which leads to the investor profiles ranking from conservative to aggressive. Therefore behavioural finance research is related to Emotional Intelligence studies, consequently to Emotional Competence studies. Emotional Competence is divided into five dimensions: Self-Awareness, Emotions Management, Self-Motivation, Empathy, and Social Emotions Management behaves at the time of the decision. This research tries to understand if there is a relationship between the investor's profile and his emotional competence. The main objectives of this research is: (i) To know the sociodemographic characteristics of the sample; (ii) Identify the profile of the individual investor: conservative, moderate, or aggressive; (iii) Identify the level of Emotional Competence of the individual investors (iv) Identify the most relevant Emotional Competence among the sample; and finally (v) Analyse the relationship between the dimensions of Emotional Competence and the types of Investor’s Profile.
