Abstract(s)
Food supplements are foodstuffs intended to complement a normal diet and are concentrated sources of nutrients. Objectives: To assess the knowledge and consumption of food supplements among gym-goers. Material and methods: Was done a cross-sectional, observational, quantitative and analytical study, in a sample of 278 gym-goers, to assess the consumption and knowledge about supplementation. For evaluation of Knowledge about dietary supplements was used the questionnaire by Karbownik et al (2019). Results: The majority of the sample (72.7%) stated that they did not consume dietary supplements, but those who did consume them had as main preference the consumption of protein (69.9%) and creatine (49.3%). The consumption of supplementation was higher in males, in young people and those who trained for more hours. Regarding knowledge, it was obtained an average of 12 points, on a scale from 0-17, proving to be good. Conclusion: The consumption of supplementation was higher in males, in young people and those who trained for more hours. Although there was a low consumption of supplements by the sample elements, and a good knowledge about dietary supplements, it is important to increase literacy about their consumption.
