- Addressing the Challenges of Integrating Artificial Intelligence in Project ManagementPublication . Almeida, Pedro M.; Freitas, Filipa; Fernandes, Gabriela; Santos, José M.R.C.A.; Moniz, SamuelIn recent years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been transforming various fields, including Project Management (PM). While AI offers significant benefits to PM, its implementation also presents several challenges. This paper explores some of the main barriers faced by organizations when integrating AI into PM practice. Through a review of current literature, this study identifies major challenges, such as the creation of unemployment, the need for upskilled project managers, erosion capabilities of project managers, ethical issues, high initial investment, security and data privacy concerns, and data availability. By analyzing these challenges, this paper provides insights into strategic approaches for overcoming them, emphasizing the importance of change management strategies, investment in training, development of clear ethical regulations, and the highlighting the need for Project managers to develop a versatile skills set that balances technical proficiency with human-centric skills like empathy, adaptability, collaborative mindset, and emotional intelligence. These findings help to equip PM professionals with the necessary knowledge to navigate through the complexities of AI implementation effectively, while also guides scholars for future research on this emergent field.
- Consequences of greenwashing: a systematic literature reviewPublication . Ribeiro, Maria Isabel; Fernandes, António Pedro Ribeiro; Fernandes, Ana Isabel Ribeiro; Lopes, Isabel Maria; Fernandes, AntónioGreenwashing is reflected in the green marketing strategies that companies and organizations frequently use to increase their competitive advantage and turnover by attracting ecologically conscious consumers. It occurs when the conduct of greenwashers does not align with the information they disclose about their environmental performance. In this context, the main objective of this research was to analyze the consequences of greenwashing practices. To achieve this objective, a systematic literature review was conducted in the Scopus database on August 21, 2023, using defined criteria and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement. Based on the established selection criteria, 15 documents were analyzed. Most of the analyzed manuscripts were articles, grouped into 9 distinct thematic areas, underscoring the multidisciplinary nature of the greenwashing phenomenon. The results obtained enabled the identification of the consequences of greenwashing practices, with impacts on consumers, investors, cooperating companies, owners/shareholders, and society. Specifically, greenwashing increases confusion and misinformation, fosters consumer skepticism, influences purchase intentions, affects the company's profitability, and can cause significant ethical damage, manipulates society's values towards consumerism, promoting waste, harms consumers' well-being and society’s interests, undermines the credibility of companies and organizations, hinders sustainable purchasing behavior, and leads to a loss of consumer confidence.
- Nurses’ job satisfaction in the post-COVID period: a cross-sectional and quantitative studyPublication . Antão, Celeste; Fernandes, António; Rodrigues, Urbano; Ribeiro, Maria IsabelJob satisfaction (JS) is a crucial variable in organizational behavior and has been studied across different fields. Therefore, the aim of this research was to determine nurses’ level of JS at the Northeast Local Health Unit (NLHU) in Portugal and to identify which sociodemographic and organizational variables serve as differentiating factors. This cross-sectional and analytical study was conducted across three hospital units integrated into the NLHU from July 2022 to October 2023. A simple random sample of 149 nurses was surveyed through a questionnaire that included sociodemographic variables and the JS Scale by Siqueira (2008). The data were analyzed using software suitable for the Social and Health Sciences. The internal consistency of the JS scale dimensions, assessed using Cronbach's alpha, was good to very good (α > 0.8). The JS was low ( ̄=3.6; SD=0.987), primarily due to dissatisfaction with salaries ( ̄=2.1; SD=1.182) and career progression ( ̄=2.4; SD=1.267). Satisfaction with colleagues ( ̄ =4.6; SD=1.296), work’s nature ( ̄=4.4; SD=1.224), and management ( ̄=4.3; SD=1.518) contributed positively to JS. Furthermore, satisfaction with colleagues varied by age, service length, and contract type (p < 0.05). Additionally, gender was a significant factor in salary satisfaction (p<0.05). Finally, JS differed in terms of service length (p < 0.05). Most nurses were dissatisfied, suggesting the need to implement measures to improve JS, namely, offering more competitive salaries and professional growth through progression in skills, knowledge, and responsibilities over time.
