Resumo(s)
In Portugal, access to education is a right consecrated in the legislation in the area of immigration and integration of refugees. Through education, children and adults access and consolidate knowledge and instrumental skills, which are essential for their development in different dimensions of their lives. The social inclusion of children and adults can be promoted through community processes to provide access to education, health, housing and employment. The search for better living conditions, safety and well-being is a challenge, which can be successful if adequate situations are found in the destination context to respond to the educational and social needs of immigrant populations, specifically refugees. Policies and support measures have attempted to favour the reception and integration of refugee immigrants in Portugal. The problem of the inclusion of refugee immigrants must be seen in terms of achieving individual benefits for these people, but also the positive consequences for the country of destination. In this chapter, we seek to analyse how Portugal has developed the work of integrating refugee immigrants through the mobilisation of specific services and resources. We start by analysing data provided by national and international organisations collected from official documents.
