The Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB), aware of its socioenvironmental role in the district of Bragança, becomes an active member in solving problems that impact local society. Aware of the economic difficulties faced by its academic community during the COVID-19 pandemic, and aware of the environmental problem faced by the territory, namely the large volume of textile disposal in containers, through a clothing reception and donation project that seeks to assist in the mitigation of the problem. According to PERSU 2020+, from the year 2025, it will be mandatory in the European territory to find ways to value textile waste within a circular economy model, in order to contribute to the reduction of its deposition in landfills. In this context, this study aims to make known the work developed by the IPB Volunteering: clothing bank, namely in the management of the space (stock and social store) and the processes involving the treatment of clothes. In the initial phase, there are: reception, sorting and sorting (clothes for display in the social shop, clothes for social work and clothing for disposal), registration and characterization of textiles in good condition, labeling and storage in stock. In the donation phase: disposition of clothing items in the social store (size and gender), customer service and a form to control the output of items. For disposable clothing, an opportunity was created for social entrepreneurship, through the creation of products that value useless textiles, namely beds and rugs for abandoned animals. It is noteworthy here, in the characterization phase, the creation of a database with more than 4,000 registered pieces (for posterior use), in order to allow the realization of a diagnosis of the textiles found in the municipality, contributing to a better management of these within the circular economy. The IPB Volunteering: clothing bank is also a space that contributes to educational processes through the opportunity for curricular internships in areas such as social education, environmental education and related areas, allowing the development of studies within the theme of sustainability and circular economy. As a space for volunteering, it promotes citizenship and the integration of the academic community, asserting itself as a multicultural space for the dissemination of culture among peoples.
