Neste trabalho pretendemos dar a conhecer os conceitos de tradução e localização.
Começaremos por fornecer uma breve perspetiva diacrónica de ambos, uma vez que a
história da tradução é muito vasta, recorrendo para tal a factos e documentos históricos.
Além disso, abordaremos o modelo GILT (Globalização, Internacionalização, Localização e
Tradução), em que a localização se encontra inserida, explanando cada um dos conceitos que
o compõem. Posteriormente, focar-nos-emos nas diferenças de tradução e localização, da
forma como se interligam, em que consistem as respetivas atividades e as ferramentas de
apoio aos tradutores e localizadores para realizarem as suas tarefas mais rapidamente
Throughout this paper the concepts of translation and localization will be distinguished and related. At first a brief diachronic approach of both concepts will be focused on, since the history of translation covers a long time span, resorting to facts and documentation. Apart from that I will focus on the GILT model (Globalization, Internationalisation, Localisation and Translation), which comprises localization and I will explain each of the concepts. Finally I will approach the main differences between translation and localization, two concepts bridged by translation as a process, explain what both activities include and present the deliver information about the main translation tools for translators and localizers
