Abstract(s)
Alguns autores referem que o consumo de refeições intermédias é um dos principais fatores do
excesso de peso em adolescentes. Outros trabalhos sugerem o benefício das refeições intermédias,
por aumentarem a ingestão de fibra, cálcio, vitamina A e vitamina D. O presente estudo teve
como objetivo estudar a correlação entre o número de refeições intermédias dos adolescentes do
Norte de Portugal com a composição nutricional da dieta. Para isso, foi realizado um estudo
quantitativo, analítico e transversal, através da análise de diários alimentares de 3 dias e de variáveis
antropométricas e de composição corporal: peso, estatura, perímetro da cintura e percentagem de
massa gorda de uma amostra por conveniência composta por 67 adolescentes. Constatou-se que
8,5% dos adolescentes do sexo feminino e 10,5% do sexo masculino apresentavam excesso de
peso. O número de refeições intermédias diárias estava, significativamente, correlacionado com o
consumo diário de energia, hidratos de carbono, nomeadamente, açúcares simples, sódio e cálcio.
Os resultados deste trabalho sugerem que o consumo de refeições intermédias contribuiu
significativamente para o consumo energético e nutricional, com um aumento no consumo de
energia diária, hidratos de carbono totais, açúcares simples, sódio e cálcio.
Some authors suggest that the consumption of snacks is one of the main factors of overweight in adolescents. Other studies suggest the benefit of intermediate meals, by increasing the intake of fiber, calcium, vitamin A and vitamin D. This study aimed to study the correlation between the number of snacks in adolescents from the northern Portugal with diets nutritional composition. To achieve this objective a quantitative, analytical and cross sectional study was conducted. Data from three days food diaries were collect as well anthropometric and body composition variables like weight, height, waist circumference and percentage of body fat. The study was based on a convenience sample of 67 adolescents from the North of Portugal. It was found that 8.5% of adolescent females and 10.5% males were overweight. The number of intermediate daily meals was significantly correlated with the daily energy intake, carbohydrates, especially sim pie sugars, sodium and calcium. These results suggest that the consumption of intermediate meals contributed significantly to the energy and nutritional intake, an increase in the consumption of daily energy, total carbohydrates, simple sugars, sodium and calcium.
