This work stems from an experience carried out in a preschool institution in northern Portugal, within the scope of a curricular internship for a bachelor’s degree in Music in the Community. Based on this case, a study was conducted on musical practices structured around fundamental theoretical principles of the constructivist and sociocultural approaches, aimed at promoting social inclusion and developing socioemotional skills in a group of children aged 4 and 5. The qualitative methodology was developed through an action-research model within the context of professional practice, organized sequentially into the phases of observation, cooperation, and intervention. In the latter, it was possible to obtain results suggesting significant individual progress among the children, such as signs of increased self-esteem and communication skills. At a collective level, the strengthening of interpersonal bonds and the successful integration of a child identified with autism spectrum disorder were also observed. It is concluded that the musical experience in this context, mediated by a musician, functions as a form of relational practice that carries within it the potential for social transformation in the holistic development of early childhood.
