Abstract(s)
estudantes
Tourism is a crucial economic activity for generating wealth and employment in Portugal, as highlighted by the World Tourism Organization (WTO). Academic tourism refers to stays of less than a year at higher education institutions (HEI) outside the students' usual residence. This study investigates the relationship between academic tourism and international mobility, with the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB) as a case study. The IPB attracts international students through programs such as Erasmus+ and cooperation protocols, with the aim of increasing its attractiveness and competitiveness on the global stage. The objectives of the work include understanding how academic tourism affects international mobility, analyzing the factors that influence this mobility and evaluating student satisfaction. The research was carried out through online surveys between January 2023 and June 2024 and explored the impact of academic tourism on the attractiveness of HEI. The results showed high levels of satisfaction with mobility at IPB. The study revealed that although demographic variables such as gender and field of study do not show significant differences in participation in mobility programs, institutional quality and the tourist experience have a relevant impact on students' satisfaction and decision to return. In addition, the significant positive relationship between the tourist experience and overall satisfaction suggests that integrating cultural activities into programs can enrich the student experience.
