This dissertation aims to analyze the perceptions of young Cape Verdeans who studied abroad and who have difficulty re-entering the Cape Verdean job market. With the increase in academic mobility, these young people return to the country with qualifications and high expectations for professional development, but face obstacles such as the recognition of foreign diplomas, overqualification and the lack of institutional support for their reintegration. The study used a qualitative approach, based on semi-structured interviews carried out with young people repatriated after completing higher education abroad. Data analysis followed the thematic analysis method, identifying common patterns among interviewees and links with the literature on academic mobility and professional integration. The results show that, despite the high level of qualification, many face frustration and lack of motivation due to the inadequacy of the local market, which offers few opportunities compatible with their training. The lack of effective public policies exacerbates these difficulties, encouraging some to consider continuing migration. It is concluded that it is necessary to implement support policies that facilitate the integration of qualified young people and take advantage of their potential for the socioeconomic development of Cape Verde.
