A Tradução Audiovisual tem-se desenvolvido significativamente durante as três últimas décadas. A legendagem e a dobragem são, tradicionalmente, as modalidades mais populares e exploradas academicamente. No caso de Portugal, este sempre foi um grande consumidor de produtos cinematográficos estrangeiros e como tal assumiu-se, desde cedo, como um país de legendagem.
Desta forma, o presente relatório tem como objetivo primordial apresentar e analisar o meu percurso como estagiária no Festival Internacional de Cinema de Avanca, estabelecendo uma ligação entre os conhecimentos teóricos e a sua aplicação a nível prático. O estágio desenvolvido permitiu refletir sobre a invisibilidade do legendador, através da análise das várias situações com as quais me deparei.
Com este relatório, procura-se demonstrar a necessidade de valorizar uma profissão que, infelizmente, ainda não se encontra suficientemente reconhecida. A profissão de tradutor, em geral, e, especialmente a profissão de legendador, são ainda “invisíveis” nesta sociedade que “cegamente” consome esses mesmos serviços. É à luz desta temática sobre a invisibilidade do tradutor e do legendador que o relatório se centrará.
Audiovisual Translation has gone through a significant development over the past three decades. Subtitling and dubbing are traditionally the most popular and academically explored modes. Portugal has always been a major consumer of foreign films and as such has come forward, from an early age, as a subtitling country. Thus, the main purpose of this report is to present and analyse my path as an intern at the Avanca International Film Festival, establishing a link between theoretical knowledge and its practical application. The developed internship has enabled me to reflect upon the subtitler's invisibility through various situations I came across. This report seeks to demonstrate the need to value a profession which, unfortunately, is not yet sufficiently recognised. The profession of translator in general, and especially the profession of subtitler, is still “invisible” in this society that “blindly” consumes these services. It is in light of the topic of the translator’s, and subtitler’s, invisibility that this report shall be focused.
