Abstract(s)
University “Tunas” account for spaces of culture, music and idle hours in the academic, local and social context. The members that shape this type of groups supply the development of these associations through their personal, musical, but also artistic-choreographic skills. It is precisely at this point that the development of this research is situated, which, in general, aims to understand the role of the tambourine as a fundamental instrument in the accomplishment of a Tunae concert. Worth noting that when the authors refer to a concert, it is understood by the competitions that “Tunas” participate in, namely, the three main moments that characterize them: serenades, “passa-calles” and stage performance. To carry out this research, a multiple case study methodology was adopted, of the descriptive type, which will allow to comparing the role of the tambourine in the Tunae environment. The case to be studied is “RaussTuna – Tuna Mista de Bragança (TMB)” from the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB). Participant observation is adopted as data collection instruments, whose notes and data are recorded in the researcher's diary. In addition to this instrument, a semi-structured interview was adopted, in the form of informal conversations, with the members of the case studie. Since the research is qualitative in nature, the data analysis is carried out through the formulation of three units of analysis that allow categorizing the role of the tambourine in the case study, namely: music, choreography and animation. The results suggest that for each of the analysis units there is a set of unique functions that are absolutely essential to the realization of Tunae concerts, especially in the format of festivals. Thus, for the music category, the tambourine has the following functions: marking time and technical control of the voices. In terms of choreography, it stands out for captivating and motivating the audience and demonstrating physical and motor skills. In turn, in the context of animation, the tambourine is responsible for strengthening the involvement and dynamics with the audience. Thus, the conclusion of this research is that the tambourine, through its areas of action, namely music, choreography and animation, has a very particular responsibility in the execution of a Tunae concert. Due to time constraints, it was not possible to know the public's opinion, for example through a questionnaire survey, but the challenge will remain for a future study
