dc.description.abstract | The Challenge: Highlight the need to provide sustainable psychosocial support to students from Portuguese speaking countries, namely from Africa and Brazil. The approach and process: the approach was based on the Design thinking (DT) process. It took place over the course of a semester. DT is a humanistic approach to innovation and creativity and in this project, the process focused on the students, starting with a deep empathy and discovery of needs in terms of mental health and well-being issues. These difficulties were encountered throughout the co-creation processes and the many debates with various stakeholders, which interfere with the normal operation of the IPB in the field, namely the health office. Besides students and faculty and other staff of the IPB, the Portuguese Psychological Association played an active role in the definition of topics and detailed descriptions. Figures made available to Lusa by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education, confirm that the number of Portuguese speaking students has increased by 170% in five years, from 7,355 to almost 19,993, The number of students from Portuguese-speaking African countries in higher education in Portugal has almost tripled in five years, but many face difficulties and there are high levels of dropouts, mainly due to communication difficulties of these students. The result achieved: in order to raise awareness among IPB staff, the project was presented to the IPB board and academic services. We also produced contents to be placed on the future IT Platform that will be available to students. Also, based on the report developed along the co-creation process, two part-time medical doctors were already hired. The next steps planned: To develop the platform with support from external partners. | pt_PT |
