Abstract(s)
Issues such as transformational leadership, organizational culture, motivation, job satisfaction, and commitment have been widely studied in the business context, in order to understand their effective contribution to the firm efficiency. However, there are still several open questions regarding the type of relationships that can be established between these different variables. The main objective of this study is to analyze the perception of employees of northern Portuguese textile firms, regarding the influence of transformational leadership and organizational culture on employeesâ commitment, as well as the possible mediating effects of job satisfaction and motivation in these relationships. The study was developed from a sample of 235 employees from seven firms in the textile sector. A quantitative data analysis methodology was used from a structural equation model, using the IBM Amos software (version 26.0). Ten hypotheses were formulated and tested, duly sustained through a prior literature review. Results show that there is a positive relationship between transformational leadership and employeesâ commitment, only indirectly through the mediating effects of motivation and/or job satisfaction. On the other hand, it was possible to verify a relationship between organizational culture and employeesâ commitment, both directly and indirectly, through the mediating effect of motivation. Job satisfaction was not shown to mediate this relationship.
