Abstract(s)
The evolution of the times along with the processes of industrialization, phenomena such as emigration in search of better living conditions and natural disasters, among many other factors, has been successively changing the geographical spaces, making them more or less attractive to live in. Then comes the concept and situations of vulnerability, both social and environmental. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to define qualitative indexes based on data collection, which reflect the vulnerability to human and environmental factors, this definition will be made at the level of each selected village as a case study, more specifically in Rio de Onor, Cova da Lua and Bragança, all located in the Northeast of Portugal, in which the components of the demographic index, socioeconomic potential, infrastructure, environment and anthropic or natural threats will be evaluated. To understand more succinctly, developed from these indexes a table in which it is possible to classify each parameter of the location, through the predefined subindexes. Since each sub-index has a different characteristic that qualifies the location to be classified in the scale that comprises the following degrees of satisfaction: great, good, regular or bad. Finally, in order to extend the study made here, it has tried to provide proposals for intervention and solution for situations where social and environmental vulnerability exists, in order to reduce or completely eliminate the factors that cause the highest vulnerability rates of the study site, in the attempt that this method gives rise to a strategy to combat the desertification of places due to the need and search for better quality of life.
