Esta investigação, quantitativa, de caráter descritivo, desenvolveu-se em dois estudos: o primeiro estudo intitulado Caraterização do fenómeno do abandono escolar no Instituto Politécnico de Bragança (IPB), e o segundo estudo - Caraterização das condições dos estudantes do IPB. O primeiro teve como objetivo geral: fazer o levantamento dos dados relativos ao abandono escolar no IPB, através da análise das matrículas anuladas pelos estudantes, que se desdobra no objetivo específico de analisar os motivos para o abandono enunciadas pelos estudantes que anulam as matrículas. O segundo estudo teve como objetivo geral: analisar a perceção dos estudantes inscritos acerca da sua condição no que respeita às dificuldades nos domínios alusivos às adversidades na entrada no ensino superior, bem como às dificuldades pessoais e aos seus recursos, e ainda acerca da disponibilidade destes para colaborar num projeto de voluntariado para prevenção do abandono escolar. O primeiro estudo envolveu 612 estudantes, 50,16% (n=307) do género feminino e 49,84% (n=305) do género masculino, com idades compreendidas entre os 18 e os 71 anos (aquando da anulação) e a média de idades igual a 25 anos. No segundo estudo participaram 825 estudantes sendo 58,91% (n=486) do género feminino e 41,09% (n=339) do género masculino. Utilizaram-se dois instrumentos de recolha de dados: a base de dados “Caracterização das anulações de matrícula dos alunos no Instituto Politécnico de Bragança no triénio de 2014 a 2016” e o questionário “Caracterização das Condições dos Alunos do IPB”. A partir dos resultados obtidos foi possível concluir, no primeiro estudo: a) No triénio estudado (2014-2016) abandonaram o IPB 5,88% (n=612) dos 10415 estudantes que se encontravam matriculados; b) Durante o triénio estudado (2014-2016), a EsACT foi a escola com maior percentagem de anulações de matrícula (4,80%), c) O primeiro ano curricular é o ano em que se observa, sucessivamente (2014, 2015 e 2016), a percentagem mais alta de anulações de matrícula; d) Os principais motivos dos estudantes do IPB que anularam a sua matrícula no triénio 2014-2016 foram motivos pessoais (19,55%), profissionais (19,23%), dificuldades económicas (16,83%) e os motivos académicos (16,03%). No segundo estudo foi possível concluir: e) 47,40% dos estudantes respondentes tem conhecimento de entre uma e quatro situações de abandono do IPB; f) As adversidades na entrada no ensino superior são sentidas por mais de metade dos estudantes respondentes, havendo 63,05% de estudantes que referem sentir dificuldades no acesso a informação inerente à inscrição, matrícula e aos serviços de ação social, 50,19% dificuldades na orientação espacial dentro do campus aquando da entrada no IPB e 55,08% dificuldades no reconhecimento da cidade aquando da entrada no IPB; g) Mais de metade dos estudantes respondentes refere ter dificuldades a nível académico (73,49%), a nível pessoal e/ou interpessoal (64,18%) e em assegurar bens materiais (55,48%); h) 41% dos estudantes respondentes demonstraram interesse em participar num projeto de voluntariado no IPB; i) A maior parte dos estudantes que indicam ter dificuldades a diferentes níveis (72,91%) está disponível para colaborar em troca do apoio que gostaria de receber.
This quantitative and descriptive research was carried out in two studies: the first study entitled - Characterization of the phenomenon of school dropout in the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB), and the second study - Characterization of the conditions of the students of the IPB. The first one had as a general objective: the collection of data related to school dropout in the IPB, by analyzing the enrollments annulled by students, which is divided into a specific objective of an analysis of the reasons for dropping out stated by the students who annul their enrolment. The second study had the following general objective: to analyse the students' perception of their condition regarding the difficulties in the domains related to the adversities in enrolling in higher education, as well as their personal difficulties and resources, and also about their availability to collaborate in a volunteer project for the prevention of school dropout. The first study involved 612 students, 50.16% (n=307) females, and 49.84% (n=305) males, aged between 18 and 71 years old (at the time of cancellation) and the average age of 25 years old. In the second study, 825 students participated, 58.91% (n=486) females and 41.09% (n=339) males. There were used two data collection tools: the database for "Characterization of the cancellations of enrollment of students at the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança in the three years from 2014 to 2016" and the online questionnaire “Characterisation of students' conditions of IPB”. Based on the results obtained, it was possible to conclude in the first study: a) During the three year period studied (2014-2016) dropped out of the IPB 5,88% (n=612 students) of 10415 students who were enrolled; b) During the three-year period studied (2014-2016), the EsACT was the school with the highest percentage of cancellations of enrollment. (4,80%), c) The first academic year is the year in which the highest percentage of cancellations is successively observed (2014, 2015 and 2016) ; d) The main reasons for IPB students cancelling their enrollment in the period of 2014-2016 were personal (19.55%), professional (19.23%), economic difficulties (16.83%) and academic (16.03%) motives. In the second study it was possible to conclude: e) 47.40% of the surveyed students are aware of between one and four situations of dropout from the IPB; f) More than half of the surveyed students experience difficulties in entering higher education, with 63.05% of them reporting difficulties in accessing information inherent to enrolment, enrolment and social action services, 50.19% difficulties in navigating in the campus when enrolling at IPB and 55.08% difficulties in city recognition when enrolling at IPB; g) More than half of the surveyed students reported having difficulties at academic level (73.49%), at personal and/or interpersonal level (64.18%) and in ensuring material goods (55.48%); h) 41% of the surveyed students showed interest in participating in a volunteer project at the IPB; i) Most of the students who reported having difficulties at different levels (72.91%), are available to collaborate in exchange for the support they would like to receive.
