Abstract(s)
Com o presente trabalho pretende-se analisar o impacto do turismo na economia de Cabo Verde.
Este relatório aborda também a entidade acolhedora – o Instituto Nacional de Estatística de Cabo
Verde – e as atividades desenvolvidas ao longo do estágio para a aquisição e desenvolvimento de
novas competências. O estudo focou-se em examinar a relação entre a atividade turística e o
crescimento económico de Cabo Verde, considerando variáveis como as chegadas de turistas, a
taxa de inflação e o crédito à economia como determinantes do Produto Interno Bruto (PIB). Para
avaliar a relação de longo prazo entre estas variáveis, foi aplicada uma análise de cointegração de
Engle-Granger, complementada pelo modelo de Correção de Erros de Engle-Granger para
identificar as dinâmicas de curto prazo. Os resultados indicaram uma relação positiva entre o turismo
e o PIB, tanto a curto como a longo prazo, confirmando que o setor turístico é impulsionador do
crescimento económico em Cabo Verde. Observou-se que tanto a inflação quanto o crédito à
economia têm um efeito negativo no PIB, tanto a curto como a longo prazo, o que sugere que o
aumento desses fatores pode ter um impacto adverso no crescimento económico do país. Para o
meio académico e para a sociedade cabo-verdiana, este estudo enriquece a literatura sobre turismo
e desenvolvimento no país, reforçando a importância de políticas que promovam um turismo
sustentável e maximizem os seus benefícios económicos. Adicionalmente, o estudo abre caminho
para investigações futuras que explorem em maior profundidade o papel do turismo no crescimento
económico.
he present report aims to analyze the impact of tourism on the economy of Cape Verde. This report also addresses the host entity - the National Statistics Institute of Cape Verde - and the activities developed during the internship for the acquisition and development of new skills. The study focused on examining the relationship between tourism activity and economic growth in Cape Verde, considering variables such as tourist arrivals, inflation rate and credit to the economy as determinants of GDP. To evaluate the long-term relationship between these variables, an Engle-Granger cointegration analysis was applied, complemented by the Engle-Granger Error Correction model to identify short-term dynamics. The results indicated a positive relationship between tourism and GDP, both in the short and long term, confirming that the tourism sector is a driver of economic growth in Cape Verde. It was observed that both inflation and credit to the economy have a negative effect on GDP, both in the short and long term, which suggests that the increase of these factors may have an adverse impact on economic growth in the country. For the academic community and Cape Verdean society, this study enriches the literature on tourism and development in the country, reinforcing the importance of policies that promote sustainable tourism and maximize its economic benefits. In addition, the study opens the way for future research that explores more deeply the role of tourism in economic growth.
