Abstract(s)
Neste novo tempo, as
A massificação do acesso
necessidades, demonstrando a importância do papel deste profissional no Ensino Superior,
qualificando o ensino e proporcionando melhorias quanto a preparação dos futuros
profissionais.
The topic chosen for this dissertation arose from our own academic experience and its challenges outside higher education: the labour market. One of the reasons for the choice was also the lack of research in social areas on the subject, a modern and important subject for the new professional generations. In this new era, young people's insecurities and anxieties about the labour market are significant. A stable life, decent work and fixed salaries are becoming more and more scarce, making the demands exceed those of higher education. The massification of access to higher education has also brought competitiveness and an illusory return to a life that is almost unattainable for young people in Portugal. For this reason, a qualitative study was carried out, using a questionnaire survey of fifteen students from a Higher Education Institution (HEI) in the north of Portugal, seeking to demystify questions about education and its preparation for the current labour market. Analysing the data collected through the questionnaires helped us understand the students' personal experiences of employability in relation to their academic life. From the results, it was possible to understand that young people face a number of barriers to entering today's labour market, including the low supply and high demand for jobs, indicating that these new times are even more competitive. It also reflected on the importance of acquiring skills and encouraging people to gain professional experience at HEIs, highlighting the importance of internships and/or community contact projects. Likewise, this study aims to show that young people are concerned about their current professional integration and that they are looking to acquire skills for better adaptability to the world of work, which they recognise as necessary. The main contribution of this study was to reveal a new area to Social Educators, understanding that the profession must be attentive to new social issues and their needs, demonstrating the importance of the role of this professional in Higher Education, qualifying teaching and providing improvements in the preparation of future professionals.
