Abstract(s)
Food processes are major causes of environmental impacts, being responsible for part of the ecological footprint of each human being. Deforestation, the consumption of water resources, the loss of biodiversity, the production of greenhouse gases, are among the environmental consequences related to food, but they are not always understood as such by society. To produce and consume food in a more sustainable way should be a priority for governments in all countries, since food security in the future depends on attitudes and behaviours towards the environment today. The aim of this study, developed through a literature review, is to discuss the environmental impacts related to food and to promote a brief reflection on the role of environmental education for a more sustainable diet, seeking ways to reduce the environmental impact, raising awareness of good practices for food production and consumption, thus contributing to the 2030 Agenda, namely SDGs 2 - Zero Hunger and Sustainable Agriculture and SDG 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production.
