Abstract(s)
Resultados: Participaram no estudo 54 enfermeiros.
In the emergency department, several factors may increase the stress levels of nurses, with potential consequences for their professional and personal lives. Objectives: To assess perceived stress in a sample of emergency nurses from a hospital center in northern Portugal; to identify the main stressors perceived in the sample; to examine the relationship between perceived stress and sociodemographic and professional characteristics.Methodology: This was a cross-sectional study. The ESPE - Nurses’ Occupational Stress Scale was used, consisting of 34 items divided between seven factors and three domains. Results: A total of 54 nurses participated in the study. The mean total score of the ESPE - Nurses’ Occupational Stress Scale was 80.94 ± 11.95, well above the minimum possible score (= 34). Workload and death were the main perceived stressors. The variable education also showed significant differences, as nurses with a master’s degree had higher perceived stress scores in factors VI, III, V and in the total scale. Conclusion: The results allow the development of individual and organizational strategies aimed at addressing the main stress-inducing factors in emergency nurses.
