Abstract(s)
do solo.
The article presents a documentary analysis on soil degradation and its sustainable management, resulting in the implementation of policies within international frameworks as well as European and portuguese regulations. The author discusses the importance of soil conservation for environmental preservation and ecosystem health, as well as for the quality of life of present and future generations. Focusing on concerns regarding soil degradation and its active response through sustainable soil management, the article examines two major organizations, the United Nations (UN) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), where the objective is to comparatively analyze how global concerns related to degradation and sustainable management are expressed in international policy guidelines (UN, FAO) and within the European and portuguese regulatory frameworks. Additionally, a synthesis is provided on the topic associated with indicators from the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) for achieving soil degradation neutrality alongside indicators of sustainable soil management announced by the FAO. The article delves into topics such as soil degradation, desertification, biodiversity loss, and climate change, while analyzing policy measures developed to address these concerns. To accomplish the objectives described, the study required research through literature reviews covering topics such as soil neutrality indicators (UN), sustainable soil management indicators (FAO), methods and sources for obtaining information at local, regional, and global levels, and sets of policy measures developed to address concerns such as soil degradation and sustainable soil management.
