Abstract(s)
The use of the welding procedure in an industrial scale has become expressive over the years and currently is between the main joining processes. Along the welding occurs structural and metallurgical changes nearby the joint. The thermal stresses and geometrical distortions are mostly undesirable and complicated to be precisely foreseen. Using as a base material the S235JR steel, were performed laboratory experiments by GMAW process with different welding sequences, having as an aim the investigation of the influence of direction and orientation in the distortion of the samples. For the measurement of the distortions, it was applied a methodology using equipment to identify the coordinates in the operational space with metrological precision and posteriorly it was applied a second methodology through analogical equipment with the aim of making their comparison and to verify the efficiency of the methodologies. Through metrological and statistical analysis, it was found that the welding direction was a sicnificant factor for the bead-on-plate welding, while for the butt welding, the orientation factor was shown to significantly influence the final distortions. As a result of the comparison between the methodologies, both obtained similar results and proved to be effective in identifying the patterns of distortions.
