Abstract(s)
The objective of this study is to understand how and why to use a Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) to overcome management and sustainability challenges in the Barroso Mine. Nowadays, it is essential for organizations to adopt sustainable management practices to ensure their long-term viability. The theoretical framework encompassed CBA, management challenges, and sustainability. The case study of a mining company responsible for the exploration and exploitation of the Barroso Mine proved capable of answering the research question. Data collection was conducted through document analysis, reports, and interviews published online. The collected data was treated descriptively, always referencing the research question. The following results stand out: initial investment, market price, production costs vs market price, risk analysis, and environmental and social impact analysis are some CBA methods to which it was possible to associate management and sustainability motivations and challenges. In practical terms, this study can serve as a basis and contribution for other companies to adopt a CBA to overcome management and sustainability challenges, as it systematically and objectively evaluates economic, social, and environmental impacts. Therefore, CBA is an indispensable tool in the strategic planning of contemporary organizations, playing a crucial role in ensuring their long-term viability and promoting social and environmental sustainability.
