Abstract(s)
This report was carried out as part of the Supervised Teaching Practice, integrated into the master’s degree in Teaching the 1st Cycle of Basic Education and Portuguese and History and Geography of Portugal in the 2nd Cycle of Basic Education, and took place in the 2022/2023 school year in two educational institutions in the city of Bragança. Our theme was multimodal narratives in the area of democratic participation. For our research, we defined the following objectives: (i) To get to know children's perceptions of democratic participation, using multimodal narratives; (ii) To develop teaching-learning strategies, allowing children new ways of being, looking at and participating in society; (iii) To consolidate the skills that children already have on democratic participation; and (iv) To analyze the information gathered from multimodal narratives, valuing children's experiences and ideas, with a view to taking reasoned positions on the subject under study. As for the methodology used, we opted for qualitative research. The data was collected using the techniques of direct and participant observation and multimodal narratives. As instruments, we used field notes, photographic records (Photovoice) and the children's productions. Through data analysis, we were able to understand that children already showed some knowledge about their rights and how to exercise them, demonstrating commitment and interest throughout the activities, always giving their opinion on certain subjects. We also observed that children were able to achieve many new learnings, as we noticed the contribution of implemented practices towards the formation of more responsible, autonomous, and supportive citizens. We kept track of the children's learning regarding the acquired knowledge and found that they gradually felt more capable of exercising their rights and duties, in dialogue and respecting others (in attitudes and actions expressed), with a democratic, pluralistic, critical, and creative spirit.
