Abstract(s)
Oral emergency contraception (OEC) is the only method that can be used after unprotected sexual relations in order to prevent an undesired pregnancy. This way, it is needed to assess the knowleges on OEC in Higher Education students. Objectives: to characterize a sample of Health School students according to social and demographic, academic and of sexual activity variables; to assess the knowleges on OEC of the sample and analyze them according to characterization variables. Quantitative, descriptive and analytical study with 257 students with ages between 18 and 40 years, 87, 2% were female and 12, 8% male. Questionnaire with characterization data and a scale of knowleges on OEC, applied to 1st, 2nd and 3rd years of the five bachelor degrees, and to all students in class. The majority of the students already knew OEC, although the average of knowleges was lower than the theoretical average of the scale built for that purpose. Knowleges are in average higher in those who had already begun their sexual activity (83,3%), 19,9% had already use OEC and almost half of the students agrees with it’s use (44,2%), most of them to prevent a pregnancy because of an unprotected sexual relation (22,7%). It is important that students in HE can have proper information to healthy sexual practices.
