Abstract(s)
primeiro soldado morto.
Death is a vital part in António Lobo Antunes’s work, though it appears in an obsessive way. Focusing our attention mainly in A Morte de Carlos Gardel, we can say that the human finitude is the central vector of identity, close to symbolic representations, that, in Antunes’s work, are completely shifted. If death appears in the Medieval Age closely related with the black plague, having its presence been intensified in several arts, in Antunes death is shown from a personal point of view due to Antunes’s experience of warfare. This issue is especially presented in his second novel, Os Cus de Judas, where the main character talks with the (alleged) ghost of the first dead soldier.
