Abstract(s)
The present dissertation sought to understand the impact of Restorative Justice, perceived by the social workers of the Educational Centers, in the (re)socialization of young offenders, through the following research objectives: 1) To describe the experience, from the social worker's point of view, through what the young person goes through from entering the educational center to their social reintegration; 2) Explore the social workers's perception of the possible benefits of integrating young people into the restorative justice model; 3) Reflect on the feasible implementation of the restorative justice model in the context of juvenile delinquency; 4) Understand how the restorative justice model impacts the social workers's intervention with the young person. In order to respond to the objectives, a qualitative methodology was chosen using a semi-structured interview to explore the perceptions of four social workers's who tutor young people who are carrying out confinement measures in two educational centers. From the analysis of their speeches, it was found that, although restorative justice is not applied to cases of juvenile delinquency in Portugal, most social workers consider this model advantageous, namely because of the fact that it gives the young person an opportunity to repair the damage with the victim, ending the intervention process and enhancing their resocialization.
