Abstract(s)
A natureza heterogénea e
Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) para
Web of Science, sem limite temporal.
Approximately one third of all stroke patients develop visuospatial neglect, a debilitating symptom associated with a poor outcome. The heterogeneous and multisensory nature of the symptoms makes it difficult to diagnose and treat. Therefore, effective screening and intervention methods at the Rehabilitation Nursing level are crucial. Objective: To map scientific evidence that allows us to identify nursing interventions for the impact of visuo-spatial neglect on the activities of daily living/self-care of people after stroke. Methods: This scoping review followed the PCC strategy (Participants: Person after stroke with visuospatial neglect; Concept: Nursing interventions in activities of daily living/self-care; Context: hospital. It also followed the JBI Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) for Scoping Review (PRISMA- ScR) recommendations, with a search in PubMed, CHINAL Complete, Repositório Científico de Acesso Aberto de Portugal (RCAAP) and Web of Science databases, with no time limit. Results: The main intervention approaches are functional training, sensory stimulation, strategy training and task repetition. Conclusions: The results indicate the importance of drawing up intervention plans that promote the rehabilitation of visuo-spatial neglect in stroke survivors, boosting their independence in carrying out activities of daily living/self-care. As a rule, stroke survivors have visuo-spatial neglect with severe and lasting limitations in their functional independence. The rehabilitation of these people should focus on learning a strategy for activating the contralesional arm and perceptual rehabilitation tasks (pen and paper tasks, reading and copying). There are new therapeutic approaches and methods, such as virtual reality methods. Therefore, the rehabilitation approach preferably involves multidisciplinary programs, with emphasis on the Rehabilitation Nurse Specialist.
