Abstract(s)
Over the past decade, social networks have proliferated and, both personally and professionally, have significantly influenced people regardless of their age, gender, race or social status. Reflection on their use in the school context and their potential at various levels (motivation, teaching and learning, communities of practice and peer interaction, among other levels) cannot be neglected in the digital society in which we live. In this context, this paper intends to present the use of the Google Classroom in the school context, by a higher education teacher, in a Vocational Higher Technical Course in the 2018-2019 school year, from a northeastern school of education in Portugal. The operationalization of this study was based essentially on a content analysis of the interactions and the type of functionalities that the application enables, in order to report and discuss its use as a teaching and learning platform and to understand how it can be integrated in the teaching and learning process and the development of teacher-student-student-student relationships. The different tools available in the app have enabled the creation of classes, the release of announcements or notices, the setting up of assessment and reflection mechanisms for student work, as well as the association with other applications such as Google Drive to extend functionality, among others services of this tool. But will this tool fit the requirements of a Vocational Higher Technical Course? Generally, we can say that the Google Classroom app provides features that favor greater and better involvement of teachers and students in the teaching and learning process, encouraging interaction between teacher and students. However, there is not exactly one feature that has stood out beyond the integration of the various features available in the various Google applications.
