Abstract(s)
Neste trabalho procurou-se estudar, fundamentalmente, as correlações existentes entre várias medidas testiculares e escrotais, tomadas em vida, e o peso testicular obtido após abate. Um grupo de seis bodes maduros da raça Serrana, variedade Transmontana, escolhidos aleatoriamente da cabrada experimental da UTAD, nascidos e criados nesta instituição, foi abatido durante os meses de Junho e Julho. Sobre estes animais foram realizadas várias medições testiculares e escrotais, tanto em vida como após o seu abate.
Em vida, estes bodes, com uma idade aproximada de 2 anos e 2 meses e um peso corporal de sensivelmente 55,2 kg, apresentavam, em média, um perímetro escrotal de 26,5 cm, um comprimento testicular de 11,2 cm, um diâmetro testicular de 5,5 cm e um volume escrotal de 132,3 cm3. Após o abate, verificou-se que estes animais apresentavam uma espessura escrotal de 0,23 mm, um volume testicular de 148,1 cm3, um peso testicular de 151,8 g e uma densidade testicular de 1,03 g/cm3. Os testículos destes animais mostraram ser bastante simétricos.
Das diferentes medidas testiculares e escrotais tomadas in vivo, apenas o volume escrotal se correlacionou significativamente com o volume testicular (r = 0,931; P≤0,01); nenhuma destas medidas, no entanto, se correlacionou significativamente com o peso testicular (P>0,05). Ambas as medidas realizadas postmortem, ou seja, o peso e o volume testiculares, mostraram estar positivamente correlacionadas (r = 0,897; P≤0,05).
The relationship between testicular and scrotal in vivo and postmortem measurements was study on a group of six mature Serrana (variety Transmontana) bucks slaughted on the months of June and July. These bucks were aproximatly two years old and weighted 55.2 kg. They presented an average testicular circumference of 26.5 cm, testicular lenght of 11.2 cm, testicular diameter of 5.5 cm and scrotal volume of 132.3 cm3 (in vivo measures), testicular weight of 151.8 g, testicular volume of 148.1 cm3 and testicular density of 1.03 g/cm3 (postmortem measures). Among all the in vivo measures the scrotal volume was the only one significantly correlated to the testicular volume (r = 0.931; P≤0.01); none of these measures was significantly correlated to the testicular weight (P>0.05).
