Abstract(s)
This final internship report was carried out as part of the master’s programme in PreSchool Education and Primary School Teaching and is the result of the supervised teaching practice we carried out in three different contexts: nursery school, kindergarten, and primary school. Citizenship education, and more specifically the issue of financial education, provided the motto for the intervention and research. The relationship between financial education and citizenship education is becoming increasingly important as an essential component in the formation of informed and responsible citizens. This work explores and investigates the importance of financial education as a critical dimension in the education of citizens, with the aim of enabling individuals to make informed financial decisions and participate actively in society. Its objectives are: i) to develop teaching-learning experiences that encourage an approach to financial education within the framework of citizenship education; ii) to learn about children's perceptions of financial concepts; and iii) contribute to the education and training of financially responsible children. The research is qualitative in nature and used participant observation, a logbook, photographic records and an interview survey of 1st grade children as data collection techniques and instruments. Diverse pedagogical practices are emphasised to engage children in a meaningful way with the challenges of the financial world. The results indicate that the activities met the stated objectives, as we were able to identify the children's conceptions, as well as new acquisitions of knowledge and financial awareness through the dialogues, questions, attitudes, games, and activities developed throughout the intervention. Integrating topics related to financial education within the framework of citizenship education can enhance children's ability to make more informed decisions about financial matters, contributing to a more informed, aware, and economically empowered society.
