Abstract(s)

Tourism is a vital activity for the economy, having been, in 2019, the largest export economic activity in the country, responsible for 52.3% of services exports and for 19.7% of total exports, with tourist revenues contribution of 8.7% to Portuguese Gross Domestic Product (GDP). It is rapidly growing globally and is considered an important means for the development of the regions. In this context, tourism has the capacity to bring about economic opportunities in structures that are not very diversified and with development delay, as is the case with the low-density territories. This study aims to analyze the importance of the tourism sector for the municipality of Mirandela, identifying the main resources and opportunities generated by the creation of the Parque Natural Regional Vale do Tua as well as knowing the perspectives of the various stakeholders. Thus, two methodologies will be combined (qualitative and quantitative); the qualitative methodology, through interviews with stakeholders responsible for public and private entities as well as analysis of the contents of the online reviews of the official hotels and restaurants websites (TripAdvisor and Booking) in Mirandela; quantitative methodology, through the application of a survey to residents.
