No campo da tradução, a localização é uma área importante na sociedade de informação atual que poucos
conhecem verdadeiramente. Usualmente, o termo é associado a sítios na internet, ou seja, à área de
“tradução de páginas web”, mas também pode significar a tradução de conteúdos de videojogos ou de
diferentes softwares, bem como da respetiva documentação ou de outros componentes associados. Isto
implica que o trabalho do localizador seja, em primeira instância, traduzir. Mas, além de traduzir, o
localizador localiza. Neste processo não podemos menosprezar a internacionalização e a globalização
que em conjunto permitem que um produto seja acessível de forma global. A junção destas quatro áreas
é conhecida como acrónimo ou modelo GILT. Neste estudo bibliográfico serão estudadas as
interligações e conceitos entre as áreas do GILT, bem como as características que fazem a diferença entre
um tradutor e um localizador, enfatizando principalmente as funções e o papel de cada um no campo
laboral atual da tradução e localização.

Usually, this term is associated with internet pages, specifically in the area of “website translating”, however this term can also render the translation of videogame contents or specific software, among a lot of other components. This implies that the work of a localizer is mainly the work of translation. Nevertheless, apart from translating the localizer localizes, and this process is accompanied by the Internationalisation and Globalisation tools, which together can make a product accessible worldwide. These four areas are known as the GILT model or acronym. The following paper is an attempt to study the connexion between these terms, as well as their definitions, and the different traits that can be found in a translator and in a localizer, focusing mainly on their roles in the translating world workforce.
