  • SQMS – A prototype for a supplier quality management system
Publication . Sousa, João Paulo; Morais, Elisabete Paulo; Cunha, Carlos R.; Gomes, João Pedro
Within the supply chain, the customer does not simply buy parts or services from suppliers, but also buys supplier capabilities, which results in quality products and services. Having a tool that handles the Inspection as well as the Nonconformance, Complaint, Corrective Action and Concession processes is key to successfully track the supplier performance. Taking as a case study a Supplier Quality Management (SQM) currently in operation in an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for automotive industry, this paper presents a platform to support a Supplier Quality Management System (SQMS), that fits the technical specification ISO/TS 16949 requirements. This prototype is composed by a web platform and a mobile App, having flexibility and mobility as key main characteristics.

  • Review and analysis of research on video games and artificial intelligence: a look back and a step forward
Publication . Sousa, João Paulo; Gomes, João Pedro; Tavares, Rogério Júnior Correia; Mendonça, Vítor
This article shows the intimate relationship between Artificial Intelligence (AI) and video games research in 13 categories of analysis based on a bibliometric survey carried out in the Scopus database. We first briefly reviewed the relation between video games and AI. Then, we introduced the methodology of literature collection, presented and discussed the query, as well the flow of data treatment in the applications and plugins used. Since the article is concerned with a historical point of view of the relationship between digital games and AI the results were many and, therefore, we focused on the top 10 of each ranking, and discussed these results separately. Finally, we discuss the limitations of our review, proposing future research directions for scholars.
  • An indoor navigation architecture using variable data sources for blind and visually impaired persons
Publication . Gomes, João Pedro; Sousa, João Paulo; Cunha, Carlos R.; Morais, Elisabete Paulo
Contrary to outdoor positioning and navigation systems, there isn’t a counterpart global solution for indoor environments. Usually, the deployment of an indoor positioning system must be adapted case by case, according to the infrastructure and the objective of the localization. A particularly delicate case is related with persons who are blind or visually impaired. A robust and easy to use indoor navigation solution would be extremely useful, but this would also be particularly difficult to develop, given the special requirements of the system that would have to be more accurate and user friendly than a general solution. This paper presents a contribute to this subject, by proposing a hybrid indoor positioning system adaptable to the surrounding indoor structure, and dealing with different types of signals to increase accuracy. This would permit lower the deployment costs, since it could be done gradually, beginning with the likely existing Wi-Fi infrastructure to get a fairy accuracy up to a high accuracy using visual tags and NFC tags when necessary and possible.
  • Towards a platform for a supplier quality management system
Publication . Sousa, João Paulo; Cunha, Carlos R.; Morais, Elisabete Paulo; Gomes, João Pedro
Today any OEM automotive industry that wants a status of a world-class organization has to follow a proper supplier quality management based on the worldwide recognized international standards. With this, the customer within a supply chain should have the sureness that the company has supplier capabilities in place to provide a service that consistently meets its needs and expectations. Although some of this Supplier Quality Management Systems (SQMS) are deeply integrated and used inside of an organization, sometimes they are implemented using inappropriate or limited tools, making the work of employees harder and acting often as entropy sources in those systems. Having the right tools to handle Inspections as well as Nonconformance, Complaint, Corrective Action and Concession processes is key to successfully track the supplier performance. This paper presents a platform to support a SQMS, that fits the technical specification ISO/TS 16949 requirements.
  • Gamers’ reaction to the use of NFT in AAA video games
Publication . Tavares, Rogério Júnior Correia; Sousa, João Paulo; Maganinho, Bruno; Gomes, João Pedro
The use of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in AAA games is a very controversial topic, which leads to negative reactions from the gamer community. The objective of this article is to relate some of these cases that presented visibility in the press and to analyze the reactions this theme generates. To achieve this, we present some cases that had more relevance in the specialized press and, in the sequence, we present a discussion about the main problems pointed out, such as the state of the art of blockchains, energy efficiency, frauds, and currency evasions. Finally, we present some hypotheses to glimpse how NFTs, and their use in games, may happen in the near future.
