- An industry 4.0 approach for the Robot@Factory lite competitionPublication . Lima, José; Oliveira, Vitor; Brito, Thadeu; Gonçalves, José; Pinto, Vítor H.; Costa, Paulo Gomes da; Torrico, CesarThe Robot@Factory Lite (R@FL) is a competition held at the Portuguese Robotics Open that aims to present a problem inspired by the deployment of autonomous mobile robots on a factory shop floor. This paper proposes an approach to transform this competition according to the Industry 4.0 concept using the Wi-Fi to attribute orders to the mobile robot. The main contribution of this paper is to address a Supply Chain Management (SPM) of the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) that will inform the tasks to the robot so that it can schedule. It is presented a new hardware architecture that should be able to read the information of the parts through Wi-Fi in a client-server methodology. It also includes encoders that allow to feedback the wheels rotation and can be used to estimate the odometry.
- CoR's Faster Route over MyrinetPublication . Pina, António; Alves, Albano; Oliveira, Vitor; Moreira, CecíliaIn this paper we concentrate in the efforts made to exploit the performance of Myrinet to build a faster communication route into CoR1. By accessing the Myrinet interface through GM2, we achieved low latency and high bandwidth message passing without the overhead of a higher level protocol stack, system calls or interrupts. CoR is an ongoing project unique in its design goal of combining multithreading, message passing and distributed shared memory with facilities to dynamically select from different transport media and protocols the one that best fits communication and interaction requirements. The ability to mix CoR and PVM calls in the same program brings numerous benefits to the application developer familiar with PVM, notably: 1) new transport communication layers; PvmRouteMyrinet and PvmRouteUdp; 2) migration mechanisms for exploiting fine grain message passing; 3) thread-safe communication PVM API; 4) object-oriented distributed shared memory.
- Educational robotics summer camp at IPBPublication . In this paper, it is presented an educational experiment in the mobile robotics domain. The referred experiment was part of a summer camp, which took place at the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança Portugal, being its technological aspects related with mobile robotics. Other than the technological aspects, the students participated in many different cultural and social activities, having the opportunity to know the city of Bragança and also to know different persons, mainly students, professors, researchers and laboratory technicians. The applied approach in the summer camp was a challenge based learning methodology, being involved in the experiment 3 professors, 4 monitors, working with a group of 16 secondary school students. The described experiment was planned as an activity of the RoboSTEAM - Integrating STEAM and Computational Thinking development by using robotics and physical devices ERASMUS+ Project.
- pCoR - a protoype for resource oriented computingPublication . Pina, António; Oliveira, Vitor; Moreira, Cecília; Alves, AlbanoIn this paper we present CoR a resource oriented computing model that address the question of how to integrate user-level fine-grained multithreading, communication and coordination into a cluster of symmetrical multiprocessor computers. To support the design of complex distributed application using the proposed paradigm we built pCoR a run-time system which has new areas that represents extensions to the strict shared memory and message passing models supported by other platforms: remote operations, dynamic domains, communication ports, multithreading management, shared memory, replication and partition are some of its distinguished features. In addition, it provides a thread-safe transport communication layer to take advantage of modern high-performance commodity hardware/software like Myrinet network.

In this paper, a competition of the Portuguese Robotics Open is addressed and a solution is proposed. The Robot@Factory Lite is a new challenge and accepts participants from secondary schools (Rookie) and universities. The concepts of simulation, hardware-in-the-loop and timed finite state machine are presented and validated in the real robot prototype. The aim of this paper is to disseminate the developed solution in order to attract more students to STEM educational program.
