Abstract(s)
O presente relatório aborda o estágio efetuado na empresa Eurologos, juntamente com a
investigação sobre a tradução técnica e a tradução automática. Apesar da baixa
importância atribuída à tradução técnica pela disciplina de tradução, esta contabiliza
cerca de 90% das traduções realizadas anualmente, sendo assim uma grande parte da
indústria atual. Para melhor entender o papel que o tradutor possui neste contexto, é
realçado como a tradução tem evoluído desde a Antiguidade, em que a discussão era
maioritariamente dirigida entre realizar uma tradução de forma literal ou livre. A
tradução automática alterou completamente a profissão, bem como a evolução que tem
tido para se tornar num instrumento crucial do tradutor moderno. Com o seu surgimento
e lançamento para o público, o papel que o tradutor possuía foi completamente alterado,
relegando-o frequentemente para um papel de pós-edição. Porém a tradução automática
não é a única ferramenta disponível para o tradutor moderno, tendo esta de se distinguir
da tradução assistida por computador, a qual teve início ainda durante o séc. XX. Este é
o contexto em que se desenvolve a primeira parte deste relatório. Em relação ao estágio,
o mesmo debruça-se sobre as atividades desenvolvidas, nomeadamente a formatação de
documentos, a tradução, a revisão e a transcrição, sendo abordados os pontos focados
em cada um, juntamente com as dificuldades encaradas e as respetivas soluções e
ferramentas utilizadas para tal. Na reflexão crítica é realizada a ponte entre a primeira e
segunda parte do trabalho, focando-se na experiência adquirida no decorrer do estágio e
como esta aperfeiçoou o conhecimento transmitido nas aulas do Mestrado e o seu uso
na prática. Por fim, surge a conclusão para indicar os objetivos que foram atingidos, a
importância de realçar os diferentes tipos de tradução e como a tradução automática é
relevante na atualidade.
The following report discusses the internship carried out at the company Eurologos, along with research into technical translation and machine translation. Despite the low importance attributed to technical translation by the corresponding discipline, it accounts for about 90% of the translations performed annually, and is thus a major part of today's industry. To better understand the role the translator has in this context, it is highlighted how translation has evolved since antiquity, when the discussion was mostly directed between performing a literal or free translation. Machine translation has completely changed the profession, as well as the evolution over the past decades to become a crucial tool of the modern translator. With its emergence and release to the public, the role that the translator possessed has been completely changed, often relegating him or her to a post-editing role. However, machine translation is not the only tool available to the modern translator, and it must be distinguished from computer-assisted translation, which began in the 20th century. This is the context of the first part of this report. Regarding the internship, the activities carried out were document formatting, translation, proofreading, and transcription, and the points focused on each one are addressed, along with the difficulties faced and the respective solutions and tools used for them. The critical reflection provides a link between the first and second parts of this work, focusing on the experience gained during the internship and how it enhanced the knowledge transmitted in the Master's classes and its use in practice. Finally, the conclusion reveals the objectives that were achieved, the importance of highlighting the different types of translation and how machine translation is relevant today.
