Abstract(s)
idosos institucionalizados e a família.
A questão
This dissertation, whose theme is The Social Educator in the relationship between institutionalized elderly and a family, is related to the role of Social Educators in institutional contexts, with the aim of promoting close ties between institutionalized elderly and their family. Institutionalization is a very complex process, which implies a determination of the individual's life, assuming the Social Educators/Technicians as professionals trained to intervene. The question that guides the investigation is the following: How does the Social Educator and other technicians in the social area concern the relationship between the institutionalized elderly and the family? It is intended to achieve the following objectives: to analyze the effects of the intervention of the social educator and other technicians in the social area in the relationship between the institutionalized elderly and the family; to know the perception of the elderly about the influence of the family on their life after institutionalization; to know the perception of family members about the role of the family in the elderly person's life after institutionalization. The study carried out is qualitative in nature, focusing on the content analysis of data collected in semi-structured changes. The group of participants consists of sixteen people, six institutionalized elderly women, six family members of institutionalized elderly women and four Social Educators/Technicians. Through the results of the investigation, it was possible to verify that the family plays a fundamental role in the lives of institutionalized elderly women, trying to maintain the emotional and affective balance, constituting a protective factor in the adversities that occur throughout life, including in the aging process and in institutionalization. However, it was found that the bonds originated between a family and as elderly people depend mainly on the limited long-term bonds, before institutionalization. Regarding the role of Social Educators and Technicians in institutional environments, participants understand that professionals play a fundamental role, through socioeducational activities and mediation practices, aimed at participation in the institutional context, as well as the establishment and strengthening of relations between user/family.
