Abstract(s)
As metodologias usadas
resíduos no campus.
The constant population growth, together with economic development at a global level, that causes an increasing generation of waste for the planet. This aspect develops concerns with the environment worldwide, therefore, the United Nations Organization, in the 2030 Agenda, established goals to be fulfilled by the document Sustainable Development Goals. Proper Waste Management, with a view to sustainability, contributes to several of these established goals. The objective of this work was to compare the Waste Management between two Higher Education Institutions (HEI), the Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná – campus Campo Mourão (UTFPR-CM) and the Instituto Politécnico de Bragança (IPB), with the purpose of share strategies in this area to implement a Waste Management System at the IPB - campus Santa Apolónia, which does not have an established document yet. The methodologies used in this work were: the application of online surveys to the academic community of the HEI; and conducting an Environmental Audit at the portuguese institution. The database obtained by the applied surveys were selected using a cut-off criteria, and subsequently analyzed statistically by the IBM SPSS Statistics® software. The online surveys evidenced the differences in knowledge and behavior of academic communities, which made it possible to analyze how the Waste Management systems of campus influence more satisfactorily on people's environmental perception. The management tool, Environmental Audit, was applied at IPB, based on the technical standards ISO 19011: 2012 and ISO 14001: 2015, in order to make qualitative and quantitative analysis of the containers in the common areas, interview the outsourced employees of the bars and check laboratory waste procedures. The Environmental Audit generated two confidential documents, the respective Report and an Action Plan, which proposes measures to correct the non-conformities and opportunities for improvement identified. The members of the UTFPR-CM Waste Committee provided information on actions that are taken to manage waste on campus. The main point highlighted in this work for IPB was the need to implement a documented Waste Management, for this it is necessary to indicate a structure of responsibilities, which may include the creation of a Waste Commission, and as soon as possible, a more detailed characterization should be carried out, including the study of gravimetric composition. With this study, it was possible to highlight the importance of quality Waste Management in HEIs, information that needs to be applied by the campus through Environmental Education, and changes in relation to the waste caused in the beginning of the pandemic quarantine.
