Regular physical activity offers numerous benefits for both physical and mental health. However, it remains insufficient among young people, especially during the transition from secondary to higher education. This study aimed to characterize and compare the perceived barriers to physical activity (PA) among secondary and higher education students. To identify these barriers, the ABEF questionnaire – Self-Report of Barriers to Physical Education Practice was applied to 411 students (127 high school students and 284 higher education students). The main results indicate that higher education students face a greater number of barriers, with Factor 1: Body Image/Social Physical Anxiety and Factor 2: Fatigue/Laziness standing out. When comparing sexes, it was found that female students report more barriers, particularly in the same factors. Identifying the factors that act as barriers to PA practice not only enables their overcoming—thus promoting more active lifestyles—but also contributes to the implementation of more effective physical activity promotion programs tailored to the specific needs of different population groups.
