Abstract(s)
Concerning violence in close relationships, we have been noticing that it has received high visibility not only in the scientific field but also in legal issues; therefore, this kind of violence is currently regarded as a social problem which impacts many youngsters in a biopsychosocial way. Being so, the aim of this study is to identify, among other dynamics of this phenomenon, the protecting factors which are involved at the time that a victim of dating violence takes the decision of breaking up with an abusive relationship, in an University context. In this way, we intend to contribute to a general awareness and understanding in what the Social Educator’s pactice is concerned, when it comes to implement prevention programmes since there are statistics data which call our attention to high prevalence rates of this crime. The empirical study we have carried out is qualitative (study case). We used the semistructured interview as a data collection technique which was applied to three victims of data violence aiming to answer to the following: to identify the different types and dynamics of the perpetuation of violent situations during the relationship; to find out which beliefs are associated with dating violence and the reasons why the abusive relationship goes on, to understand the process of both taking decisions and the protecting factors for the terminus of the relationship; finally to study the achieving of a life plan removed from violence. The results allowed us to identify four types of violence (verbal, Psychological, physical and sexual); we also came to the conclusion that a good social and familiar support as well as the psychological empowerment are protecting factors which lead the victims to leave na abusive relationship.
