| dc.description | O objectivo deste artigo é o de discutir a problemática do expectation gap, no âmbito de diversas fraudes empresariais que ocorreram em anos recentes e que têm contribuido para aumentar as dúvidas acerca da credibilidade da informação financeira que é reportada e auditada. O conceito de expectation gap em auditoria é um fenómeno amplamente debatido por diversos autores (v.g. Porter, 1993), que têm tentado explorar os factores que o originam, bem como têm vindo a sugerir possíveis formas de o mitigar. Na verdade, a existência de expectation gap em auditoria não só é uma matéria sensível, como também a incapacidade de o limitar resulta numa menor credibilidade dos relatos de auditoria perante a sociedade, colocando em questão a relevância e o papel da própria profissão. | por |
| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this paper is to discuss the expectation gap issue in the scope of a number of corporate scandals that have been undermining the credibility of financial reporting and auditing in recent years. The concept of expectation gap in auditing has been widely examined by several authors (e.g. Porter, 1993). While discussing its origins and determinants, the literature has also attempted to suggest ways to mitigate this phenomenon. The expectation gap is a critical factor, as its increasing existence results in a decrease of credibility of financial reporting and auditing, questioning the role and relevance of this profession for the society. | por |
