Abstract(s)
The Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB), through the Master in Translation, offered by the School of Education, contributes significantly to the social-economic and linguistic development of the Bragança district, specifically regarding translation and localization of products and contents for the district and other regions or countries. In this school, there is a Language Centre, where language courses for the IPB students and external students are offered. The languages offered are English, French, German, Spanish and Portuguese. The students are awarded a diploma proving their linguistic competences at a level according to the European Common Framework of Reference for Languages from the Europe Council. In this Language Centre, there is also a Translation Office, which provides translations of diplomas, scientific papers, dissertations and abstracts, books, guides, brochures and other documents. The objective of this work is to find other alternatives to the services offered by the Language Centre, more specifically to inquire if they are companies or freelancers, which services they offer, in which language pairs they are involved and also if the translators are current or former students of the Translation Masters of the IPB or even others. The present case study is based on questionnaires carried out with freelancers, suggested by the teachers of the Master in Translation or identified in social media groups.
