This dissertation, entitled “Analysis of Parental Involvement in the Effectiveness of CAFAP Interventions with Families of Children and Young People at Risk in the Municipality of Bragança”, examines the relationship between parental involvement and the effectiveness of interventions delivered by Family Support and Parental Counselling Centres (CAFAP). Based on the assumption that the success of family support practices largely depends on the quality of the relationship established between professionals and families, this study analyses how the degree of parental involvement influences intervention outcomes — both in terms of behavioral and relational changes and in the consolidation of parental competences. The research adopts a mixed-method approach, predominantly qualitative, combining semi-structured interviews with professionals and families and the application of a descriptive questionnaire. The sample consisted of a multidisciplinary technical team and six families supported by the CAFAP of Bragança region. The findings reveal that the effectiveness of interventions is closely linked to the level of parental involvement, with the most significant changes observed in families that actively participated in the process. Trust, empathy, and communication between professionals and families emerged as key factors for adherence and for the sustainability of change. The study confirms that parental involvement is a key factor in the success of CAFAP interventions, underscoring the importance of professional practices based on positive parenting, mediation, and family empowerment. The results contribute to reflections on policies and practices that support parenting in contexts of vulnerability, reinforcing the role of CAFAP as an essential social response for promoting family well-being and protecting children and young people.
