Abstract(s)
The success factors in small Portuguese companies, even with their great impact on the national economy, have not yet been explored in their regional focus, as shown by Mourao and Oliveira (2012). In this regard, the objective of this work is justified, which is to identify determining factors for the success of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) in Portugal. The research has an exploratory quantitative character and the information of the companies used were taken from the Iberian Balance Analysis System (SABI) database. The model of analysis was that of logistic regression. Financial, economic and regional data, among others, of several Portuguese companies were analyzed. In the construction of the work, first, it was presented the macroeconomic scenario in which Portuguese SME are inserted and what results that some authors have achieved on the subject, in order to further clarify the need for this work and not only seek results already found in other works. Then, after the descriptive and inferential statistical treatment of the data, it was concluded that the legal function for sole proprietorships, carrying out import and / or export activities, operating in the human health sector and having a larger dimension, number of employees and GVA than its competitors, increase the chances of a Portuguese SME to survive.
