Abstract(s)
estatisticamente significativa.
The present study aims to analyze the determinants of environmental certification in hotels in Portugal, considering the characteristics of the hotels that the company operates. The sample consists of hotel companies with information available in the Iberian Balance Analysis System (SABI) database and information available on the hotels they operate in the National Tourism Registry (RNT) in the year 2021. The final sample consists of 947 companies, of which 88 have or operate hotels with some type of environmental certification and 859 companies do not have or operate any hotel with environmental certification. To test the research hypotheses, a Tobit regression model was used, which has as the dependent variable the average number of hotels with environmental certification that each company operates and as independent variables the affiliation to a brand, the hotel classification, the hotel size, and sales profitability. The results indicate that affiliation to a brand, hotel classification, and hotel size are factors that explain environmental certification, while sales profitability was not statistically significant.
