A exposição ocupacional a citotóxicos tem vindo a ser reconhecida como um potencial perigo para a saúde. Atualmente, verifica-se uma grande preocupação em relação à preparação deste tipo de fármacos, pois estão associados a riscos ocupacionais que podem surtir da exposição a que os profissionais de saúde envolvidos estão sujeitos. O presente estudo foi desenvolvido com o objetivo de perceber em que condições de trabalho decorre a preparação de medicamentos citotóxicos e quais são os principais riscos para os profissionais envolvidos. Após uma pesquisa bibliográfica sistemática sobre o tema, utilizou-se um inquérito por questionário como instrumento de recolha de dados, aplicado aos manipuladores de citotóxicos de 18 Instituições Hospitalares, das 36 originárias do Plano do Programa Nacional para as Doenças Oncológicas (2015), do Serviço Nacional de Saúde. A metodologia utilizada foi tanto qualitativa como quantitativa e de natureza descritiva, exploratória. Com base numa amostra de 83 manipuladores de citostáticos, os resultados obtidos permitem concluir que a grande maioria dos manipuladores de citotóxicos que participaram no estudo conhecem os procedimentos preconizados pelas atuais guidelines para o manuseamento seguro de medicamentos citotóxicos, tendo na sua maioria uma perceção correta do risco que correm. Com esta investigação pretende-se alertar os profissionais de saúde que contactam diretamente com esta realidade para a execução de boas práticas, a fim de reduzir os riscos a que estão expostos.
Occupational exposure to cytotoxic agents has been recognized as a potential health hazard. Currently there is great concern regarding the preparation of this type of drugs, since they are associated with occupational risks that may arise from the exposure to which the health professionals involved are subject. The present study was developed with the objective of understanding in which working conditions the preparation of cytotoxic drugs takes place and what are the main risks for the professionals involved. After a systematic bibliographic research on the subject, a questionnaire survey is used as a data collection instrument, applied to the cytotoxic manipulators of 18 Hospital Institutions, from the 36 originals of the National Program for Oncological Diseases (2015), National Health Service. The methodology used was qualitative as well as quantitative and of descriptive, exploratory nature. Based on a sample of 83 cytostatic manipulators, the results obtained allow us to conclude that the vast majority of cytotoxic manipulators who participated in the study know the procedures recommended by the current guidelines for the safe handling of cytotoxic drugs risk. This research intends to alert health professionals that directly contact this reality for the implementation of good practices in order to reduce the risks to which they are exposed.
