Abstract(s)
This Internship Report of a Professional Nature, carried out within the scope of the Master's Course in Sciences applied to Health - Community Intervention Branch, reflects the work developed at the Simão Mendes National Hospital, more specifically in the Intensive Nutritional Recovery Center service (CRENI), and Center for Acute Nutritional Recovery (CRENAG) of Guinea Bissau. A total of 375 hours were completed during the Internship, and it was possible to participate, as part of healthcare teams, in the process of providing nursing care to hospitalized and outpatient children. The objective was also to evaluate the nutritional status of children aged 5 years or less admitted to the Hospital Nacional Simão Mendes, characterizing them according to their sociodemographic profile, collecting the clinical diagnosis at the time of admission and at hospital discharge. With the evaluation carried out, it was possible to verify that malnutrition was the main diagnosis admission (83.3%), followed by anemia (20%), acute diarrheal disease (11.7%), dehydration (8.3%) and malaria (3.3%), with 28 .3% of children had edema. Regarding the initial diagnosis, 3.3% revealed the existence of AIDS/HIV, 16.7% anemia, 8.3% moderate acute malnutrition, and 3.3% acute malnutrition and dehydration. Considering all weight parameters in the z-score assessment (weight-age, weight-height and BMI-age), at entry and exit, children were categorized as having some degree of malnutrition in a percentage that varied from 62% to 100%. It is considered that this Internship was an added value allowing the development of techniques in the area of nursing, as well as reflecting on the importance of nurses in evaluating child development and their nutritional status. The intervention of health technicians in the community to increase nutritional literacy is essential, in order to help achieve the WHO / UNICEF goals for 2030 to eradicate malnutrition.
