Abstract(s)
Traditional rural landscapes are culturally relevant and a consequence of an integration of natural and anthropogenic processes that resulted in a great diversity of sustainable landscapes (Council of Europe 2000; Antrop 2005).
The so-called Terra-Fria Transmontana, in Portugal northeastern border with Spain, corresponds to an agroecological territory, mainly included in Bragança, Miranda do Douro, Mogadouro, Vimioso and Vinhais municipalities (Trás-os-Montes, Portugal). Such territory is characterized by relevant biodiversity and heritage. Centuries of interaction between local populations and their environment shaped the landscape and led to outstanding traditional knowledge which was fundamental for the territory management.
